What is permanent upper eyeliner?

Permanent upper eyeliner places pigment along the upper lash line only, to define your eyes and make your lashes look fuller. It can take the place of the eyeliner you apply yourself every day.

Lora uses a fine needle and pigment made for the eye area. See more of our work in the permanent makeup gallery.

Do you do lower eyeliner?

No, Great Nails does upper eyeliner only. Lora places the pigment along the upper lash line.

If you are not sure the upper line is what you want, we will talk it through at your consultation.

How much does permanent eyeliner cost?

Upper eyeliner is $200, and the first touch-up is $50 for clients whose first session was done at Great Nails.

The $50 touch-up applies when you come back at least 4 weeks and no more than 8 weeks after your first visit. The $50 price is for clients whose first session was done at Great Nails; if it was done somewhere else, a touch-up costs the same as a new first visit. Outside that window, the price depends on how your eyeliner looks.

There is no deposit and no cancellation fee. If your plans change, please call us at (763) 433-8613 so we can offer your time to someone else.

What happens at my eyeliner appointment?

You start with a consultation about your eye shape and what you want, then we apply numbing cream for about 15 to 20 minutes. Nothing begins until you approve the line we have drawn.

  1. Consultation: we look at your eye shape and lash line and what you want, and agree on a shape and color.
  2. Numbing: we cleanse the eye area and apply numbing cream for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Mapping: we outline the line, and you approve it before we start.
  4. Pigment: we work along the upper lash line.
  5. Soothing balm: we clean the area and apply a balm.
  6. Aftercare: we go through the instructions out loud and schedule your touch-up.

Plan on about 90 minutes. Lora uses sterile, single-use needles for every client. Before we start, you also fill out a short health and consent form.

What should I tell you before my appointment?

You fill out a short health and consent form before we start. It asks about your health, your medications, and whether you wear contact lenses.

Please tell Lora about any eye problems or allergies. Both are on the list the form asks about, so we can look at them with you before the visit.

What does eyeliner healing look like?

The line looks darker and thicker for the first few days, then softens as it heals. Mild swelling and light flaking are normal.

  • For the first 48 hours, keep the eye area dry and free of makeup. If you have swelling, use a cold compress, and never put ice directly on the eye.
  • For the first week, do not wear contact lenses. Do not rub or scratch your eyes, and do not pick at flakes; let them fall off on their own.
  • No eye makeup, mascara or lash curlers on the treated area, no swimming, sauna, steam room or hot tub, and avoid heavy sweating. Keep the area out of direct sun.

If you have pain, discharge or swelling that gets worse, call us. As soon as you finish your health and consent form, we email you the written aftercare instructions, and we go through them out loud before you leave.

How long does permanent eyeliner last?

Permanent eyeliner lasts about 2 to 3 years, and sometimes longer depending on your skin type. It fades gradually, and a touch-up refreshes it.

Your first touch-up is $50 when you come back at least 4 weeks and no more than 8 weeks after your first visit. The first session is not the final result, so we judge the final look after that touch-up.

What are the downsides of permanent eyeliner?

The main trade-offs are the healing stage and the upkeep. Your eyeliner looks darker and thicker at first, with some swelling and flaking, and it fades over time, so you need a touch-up.

Future skin treatments near the eyes, such as laser hair removal, chemical peels or plastic surgery, can change how permanent makeup looks, and some of those changes cannot be corrected. We cover this and your health history on the form you fill out before your visit.
